Guest nelse Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 just had new clocks installed in my galaxy, originally went in for investigation as to why some illumination wasn't working, probably only bulbs but hey the dealer will get more from ford for replacing the clocks, however, the odometer is at 0, previously being about 14,500. Now i'm not sure, but i believed the data from the old clocks should have been loaded onto the new ones. Is this correct?, the dealer didn't even give anything to indicate what the original milage was, reciept, stamped entry in service manual so how will i stand with future servicing, prooving the milage when trading in, which i was investigating doing while it was in the workshop. I'll be contacting the workshop tomorrow but want to go in armed with relevent information. should have asked when picking it up but being rushed didn't even check the recorded mileage, sloppy i know. Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Either get them to stamp the service book stating the mileage at change-over, or get them to program the correct mileage onto the new clocks; it MUST be possible! Quote
Guest nelse Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 cheers Ivor, was thinking about getting book stamped but would prefer clocks to be set to proper milage. TIS talks about downloading configuration from original clocks and then uploading it to new ones, both need to take place while clocks are in car, not sure if this would include odometer reading but would be surprised if not, considering it's only mentioned when installing new clocks Quote
Guest EVSS Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 it is possible..but you must have the reciept for the new clocks and genuine proof that the mileage is correct that is being programmed, we help many dealers this way. Quote

Just so when i go in i'm not talking out of my arse. Quote
CasaPaulo Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I had the clocks replaced under warranty because the L/H side did not light up, apparently it just wasn't possible to replace bulb(s) On fitting the new one the miles were set to about the true original reading. He said the problem 'for him was converting from K to miles in his head' so it must be poss to exactly reset, knocking off 1000s has been the 'gravy' for shady s/h car dealers for eons. On a prior occasion to investigate 'not fully lighting up' all readings of the trip computer, fuel consumption, dash etc only read out in Kilometres and he gave instructions over the phone to reset to miles by pressing the trip or something for approx 30 secs. Guest fredt Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 There should be no problem having the correct milage on the new clocks, that's if the garage had done the job correctly! all the need to do if is connect the car up to the diagnostic machine down load the info needed and up load it to the new clocks once they are installed the problem now is that they have to replace the original clocks back into the car (if they can find them?) in order to download the mileage and then refit the new clocks and program them, all this takes time due the amount of work involved in stripping out the clocks/dash! they will most likely go for sticker in the service book as its cheaper and easier for them! dont take any crap and get them to do it properly! as they should have done in the first place Quote
Guest EVSS Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 they dont even need to do that . most of the dealer eqipment will allow them to increase mileage on clusters , and surely the dealer wrote the mileage down first? most of our business involves reinstating incorrect or corrupt data , this is why i stated you needed proof before any work could be commenced. otherwise the vehicles mileage history is compromised and could be open to question. Guest nelse Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Just to update what's happened since last i posted. Went back today to dealer who carried out the work, complained about the fact A) the milage wasn't transferred over to the new clocks, and  they failed to provide proof of the original clocks milage in my service book, leaving me with an unverifiable milage for my car. Very appologetic, took the car straight in to be looked at, after about an hour returned claiming it's not possible to alter the milage in any way on the new clocks, and a stamp in the book would be the usual proceedure. Went away unhappy to phone ford customer care line and another dealer to get there take on this. Second franachised dealer said not 100% sure but quite confident the milage on the latest galaxys instruments are not alterable.so phoned Ford for a definative answer and it's that the facility to alter the clocks was withdrawn on the newer models (I assume this applies to the actual clocks), that I should have recieved a stamp in the service book and a receipt for the work with the milage on as secondry proof, however because it was warrenty work and a receipt would not be issued a headed letter from the service department manager outlining the work carried out with all relevent dates and milages should have been supplied and i should ask the service department which carried out the work to supply one.I'm in the process of doing so now. So looks like dealer wasn't spinning me a line after all. Quote
Guest EVSS Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 well ive just reprogrammed a 53 plate cluster this afternoon for the local salvage yard , obviously because the vehicle was accident damaged the local ford dealer in this case didnt want to get involved with warranty. you can bet that if your vehicle was being sold on there forecourt they would put the mileage on. just make sure you get all the paperwork back correctly from them. gary Quote
